About the Testing
There are never any fees for testing at The Peaceful
Dragon. Advancement in rank via testing will be recognized by a
colored Chevron attached to the sash, as well as a Promotional
Certificate.
The criterion for advancing to the next level via testing is simply
that you can demonstrate minimum proficiency in the skills required
for your current level, as determined by the Head Instructor.
Individual differences are always taken into account, including such
factors as age, physical condition, health status, previous
experience, and your personal goals in your training. You are never
testing against others; you are testing for yourself.
The advantages of testing are:
- You can be confident that you are gaining proficiency in your art
in a step-by-step progression.
- You will likely be motivated to strive for a higher level of
expertise, which generally translates into more enjoyment and more
benefits from your training.
- Testing progressively in your art usually leads to greater
long-term commitment to your training.
- You will be eligible to be certified to teach the arts you train in.

About the Test
Our testing environment is designed to be fair, low-stress, and a fun,
positive experience for our students. Our goal is to pass everyone
who tests, and this goal is very realistic for the following reason:
You are the one who decides when and whether you are ready to test.
The required curriculum that you will be tested on at every level is
posted clearly on our website. You will be asked to demonstrate from
a random sampling of the curriculum for your level. Sometimes you
will be asked to demonstrate individually, and sometimes with others
who are testing at the same level. Testing will be overseen by the
Head Instructor.
Schedule and Registration Procedures for Testing
Beginners' tests (moving up from A Block to B Block) will be offered every two months.
Beginners will be notified of the testing classes, and invited by our
staff to register to be tested.
Novice Levels and up will test twice per year, approximately every
six months. Testing will be on Saturday afternoons. Students who are
unable to attend the test, or who do not pass the test, will have an
opportunity to make it up approximately ten days later (usually on a
Thursday evening.)
The student must pre-register for testing. It is the student's
responsibility to register for testing. You
should only register if: 1. You have met the minimum time requirement
for your current level. 2. You are confident that you can demonstrate
with adequate proficiency all of the material required for your
current level. 3. You have completed your emailed monthly lesson assignments.
To register for testing, simply fill out the Testing Application
Form at the counter. This must be done no later
than one week prior to the testing date. If you register to test and
then cannot make the testing date, please notify our staff
immediately.
