Ongoing Membership Requirements
Positive conduct and effort must be displayed while training at The
Peaceful Dragon, while at home, while at school and in public. A
Black Sash Club member represents the ideals of The Peaceful Dragon
and must live up to those ideals. Mistakes can be made, but they must
be corrected with humility and the desire to improve. Students who
repeatedly fail to display the ideals of the Black Sash Club will have
their membership rescinded.
As a member of the Black Sash Club, every effort should be made to
actively contribute to our school since one's strength and success in
martial arts is dependent on the strength and success of one's school.
Members should volunteer on clean-up and maintenance days or with
other school activities; make every effort to attend Peaceful Dragon
functions that are designated for children; consider joining the Lion
Dance and Demo Team to display and help others learn about our martial
arts program; and regularly promote our school to friends and contacts and
encourage them to come visit.

The Black Sash Club Pledge
I pledge to make the "Commitment to Excellence" needed to earn my
Black Sash and will be an honorable and exemplary member of The
Peaceful Dragon's Black Sash Club.
I agree to the following:
- I will train hard until I have achieved the skills and positive
qualities needed to earn my Black Sash.
- I will always give the greatest effort possible in my martial
arts classes, at school and in my responsibilities at home.
- I will use my skills and strength only to improve myself, never
to harm others.
- I will remain respectful and loyal to my instructors, fellow
students, and parents at The Peaceful Dragon.
- I will demonstrate good conduct and behavior at school and at
home.
- I will only choose and keep friends who share my positive values
and good behavior.
- I will strive to be compassionate and helpful to everyone I
meet.
- I will strengthen my good habits and overcome my bad habits and
weaknesses.
- I will volunteer and contribute when ever I can to help The
Peaceful Dragon be the best martial arts school possible.
- I understand that earning a Black Sash is not the goal. The goal
is being the greatest person I can be - and the Black Sash is my
reward for being that great person.

About the Leadership Club
The Leadership Club is our premier training program for children here
at The Peaceful Dragon. In addition to all of the great martial arts
benefits included in the Black Sash Club, the Leadership Club offers
intensive training in Leadership Skills and Success Principles. This
kind of training cannot be found in public or private schools, or
through other extra-curricular activities.
6 Extra Special Benefits of the Leadership Club:
- Intensive training and coaching in leadership and success
principles.
Created by Master Eric Sbarge, the curriculum will draw from ancient
leadership classics including Sun Tzu's The Art of War and Musashi's
Book of 5 Rings; modern business and organizational classics such as
Stephen R. Covey's 7 Habits of Highly Effective People and books by
Napoleon Hill, Dan Kennedy, and the like; and books and articles by
leading athletes and coaches
- Seminars will be led by Master Eric Sbarge and our professional
staff
Each month your child will learn important secrets and skills of
persuasion, leadership and success directly from Master Sbarge.
Each seminar will be a full hour long. The monthly Leadership Club
seminar is held on Saturday afternoons.
- 15 Minutes of extra intensive leadership club training added on to each class
Your child will be taught valuable Leadership Lessons throughout the
week plus learn advanced kung fu skills reserved only for Leadership
Club members.
- Hands-On leadership experience
Your child will actually implement and practice the leadership skills
learned in the seminars by promotion to an Assistant to the Instructor
in our children's martial arts program. Once the purple sash is
earned, your child will be assigned a martial arts class to assist in.
- Confidence built by improvement and success
As your child assists our professional instructors in one of our
regular martial arts classes, the instructor will provide guidance,
mentoring and constructive feedback on your child's teaching skills
and leadership performance.
- Success and Leadership in all walks of life
The universal nature and adaptability of the principles of leadership
will be explored with students, helping them bring their skills to all
endeavors throughout high school, college and future careers.
- Special Leadership Club uniform
To recognize those who have pledged their "Commitment to Leadership
and Success" a dark purple t-shirt with the above slogan will be worn
with pride exclusively by Leadership Club members.
Leadership Club Eligibility Requirements
The Leadership Club is open to Young Dragons age 9 to 13, and to teens
in our Adult Kungfu Program aged 14-15. To be eligible, all of the
