Message From Sifu Eric
Sbarge
For some, the winter holidays bring great happiness; for others
melancholy or sadness. Either can be detrimental if you don't make the
effort to keep centered and focused through the holidays and continue
your usual training routine.
The Peaceful Dragon will be closed for a week between Christmas and New
Year's Day to give our staff a needed break, but a break in your classes
doesn't mean that you have to break your routine of working out,
meditating and otherwise positively cultivating yourself. If you feel
that your self-initiative might wane over the holiday break, then make
plans with fellow students to meet together to train so that you don't
lose any momentum. Instead of entering the new year playing catch up,
enter in great shape with the positive spirit that a new millennium year
does warrant.

We Need Your Help
There is an area-wide shortage of qualified restaurant help. Two of our
quality staff members are leaving suddenly to move on to other things,
and as a result The Peaceful Dragon immediately needs front counter
help. Our remaining staff is working 12-hour-plus days as it is and
cannot do more. We need front counter help. If you or anyone you know is
interested in working part or full time, talk to us at the front
counter. The pay is good and you know the atmosphere is great. In
addition you'll get discounts on classes and merchandise. Folks, this is
a really serious situation. The Peaceful Dragon MAY LITERALLY COME TO A
STANDSTILL IF WE DON'T FIND HELP SOON.
What's New
Don't Neglect Your Training When You Make Holiday Plans:
The Peaceful Dragon is closed November 25th for Thanksgiving Day. We're
also closed from 6pm Friday, December 24th through Sunday, January 2nd,
and will re-open Monday, January 3rd.
New Menu and Schedule for lunch daily and on Saturday evenings. On week nights, we will be
offering prepared sandwiches, soups, cold noodle dishes and salads
instead, along with our current full assortment of desserts, teas and
coffees.
These necessary changes will enable The Peaceful Dragon to continue to
serve the most delicious and healthy vegetarian lunch specialties in
Charlotte while maintaining the highest quality of preparation and
service.
We apologize to our regular customers who will miss our normal full menu
on week nights; but we invite you to stay with us for lunches and
Saturday evening dinner, and try our alternative light and healthy fare
on week nights.
Holiday Sale: Saturday, December 4th, there will be a special sale for students and
members only. Every single item at The Peaceful Dragon - except for
books - will be 20% off. Don't miss this chance to finish all of your
holiday shopping in one day.
Congratulations
Competitors from The Peaceful Dragon did well at the Carolinas
Association of Chinese Martial Arts (CACMA) tournament held on Nov. 6th.

Around the Kwoon
Thank You to cleaning & maintenance Volunteers! All of you who contributed
your personal time and worked so hard to
clean, repair and polish The Peaceful Dragon know who you are. The place
looks great due to your efforts. A bigger turnout would've made the job
much easier for everyone. Maybe next time, more of you will make this
part of your wu-de.
Y2K Contingency Plans for The Peaceful Dragon are more than 98% complete
so please rest assured things will continue. The other 2% mostly
involves the exhaust fan in the bathroom in Studio B and possible
delays with some of our foreign suppliers such as our wonton wrapper
vendor and Baoding Exercise Hand Balls distributor.
Looking Ahead: We realize we ask for volunteers to help with things pretty often, but
because this is truly a traditional Chinese martial arts studio and
cultural center, there isn't much that can be done without the
involvement of our students. Senior A.C.C.S. member/students met
recently to discuss the future of The Peaceful Dragon in the year 2000.
We talked about the urgent need for people to help run the tea house;
find a way to buy new carpet; increase the level of participation from
newer students - and offer more support to them - as well as improve
wu-de in general. We also discussed the primary mission of The Peaceful
Dragon, which is to promote and preserve the best of Asian culture.
One specific issue was to expand the scope of our Saturday lecture
schedule. Wes is doing everything he can on this front in addition to
his other responsibilities. What we're looking for is someone to help
develop the lecture schedule, including making contacts. Content needs
to stay within reasonable parameters. Students who want to help with
this very successful part of our school can talk to Wes.
Don't wait. Your opportunity to be an instrumental part of The Peaceful Dragon in
the next century is here now.

LOOKING FOR A ROOMMATE to rent a house or apartment in the South
Charlotte area. Call James Atkins at 442-1130.
Editor's Note
The informal Sunday morning group is still meeting. What started out as
a way to get more push-hands practice and enjoy each other's company has
grown to include tai chi form practice, shaolin, weapons, and yoga
practice. The group rotates between participant's houses. Practice and
sharing knowledge is primary. Socializing is secondary. If you have been
studying for a year or more, you are welcome to come. Talk to Wes or
Michael Ballantyne if you'd like more info.
